Benefits of Truck-Mounted Asphalt Hot Boxes

A truck-mounted asphalt hot box from Falcon will slide right into your truck’s bed, allowing your crew to start making repairs quickly. Built with efficiency in mind, it will help save time and money.

You can keep hot mix asphalt for up to 72 hours while quickly warming cold patch mix. Two diesel-fueled burners will allow you to recycle millings, virgin uncompressed asphalt, and chunks.

You can configure the truck-mounted hotbox with a self-dumping capability or customized sub-frame for a:

Like all Falcon models, we offer a full line of upgrades for purchase at the time of sale or later in the aftermarket. These include a timer, a two-burner system (for recycling), and many other value-adding features.

How Do Truck-Mounted Asphalt Hot Boxes Work?

You will need an optional two-burner system if you wish to recycle asphalt. Once you’ve securely mounted the hotbox onto your truck, follow these three simple recycling steps:

  1. Use a rejuvenator to coat the hardened asphalt
  2. Load the hopper with asphalt chunks and millings
  3. Set the temperature controls to the lowest possible heat setting overnight.

Returning old asphalt to its original state requires protecting the original oils it contains. Other brands of recyclers will use an open flame to heat the hardened asphalt patching directly. The high heat causes the original oils to burn off, release black smoke, and create unusable asphalt.

Falcon truck-mounted recyclers use two burners and cross ducts to distribute heat throughout the hopper evenly. The high-density insulation allows the hopper to retain the ideal amount of heat required to break down the asphalt.

The Falcon recycler’s unique construction and combustion chamber shape enable an impressive 92% fuel efficiency rating. This means it uses less than three gallons of diesel per work shift.

Truck-Mounted Asphalt Hot Box FAQs

How quickly does hot asphalt cool down in a regular truck bed?

Hot asphalt begins cooling as soon as it leaves the plant. On cold days, it can become unworkable within a few hours. An asphalt hot box is essential to keep the material at the correct temperature for repairs.

What's the difference between Slip-In, Chassis-Mount, and Hook Lift hot box systems?

The main difference is how they attach to the truck. Slip-ins fit into a dump truck bed, chassis mounts bolt directly to the truck frame, and hook lifts use a specialized truck.

How do I choose the right truck-mounted hot box system?

The best system depends on the trucks you already own. Consider these factors:

  • Slip-In: Ideal for underutilized dump trucks
  • Chassis-Mount: Offers a permanent solution
  • Hook Lift: Provides maximum versatility for trucks with hook lift capability
Are there standard design features for truck-mounted hot boxes?

Truck-mounted hot boxes share a core design and essential features. These include heating technology, insulation to reduce heat loss, and a hydraulically operated unloading door. Some models may offer additional features to suit specific requirements.

However, some systems require more customization. For example, chassis-mount and slip-in hot boxes need careful measurements and engineering to ensure an optimal fit for your specific truck.

We’ll work closely with you to ensure the perfect fit and specifications for your truck and project needs.

Are truck-mounted hot boxes better for certain types of projects?

They offer a huge advantage when you want to maximize the use of existing trucks. You’ll save time and money by extending the capabilities of the vehicles you already own.
